Father Christmas will be taking up residence at Penrhyn Castle on the 22nd December for an unforgettable day of festive fun in the grounds of the stunning Neo-Norman castle which overlooks the Menai Straits.
A Traditional Victorian Christmas
Penrhyn Castle is a National Trust property which covers a vast area made up of 60 acres of grounds, including extensive gardens and a railway museum. It is also the location of Queen Victoria’s one tonne bed made out of slate. Penrhyn Castle will be taken over by carol singers dressed in Victorian clothes who will be providing musical entertainment throughout the day. Visitors will be able to take part in traditional country past times and pleasures such as winter walks and gain an insight into games that were common pursuits for children before the age of computers. Penrhyn Castle will be welcoming visitors from holiday parks in Snowdonia between 12 o’clock and three o’clock on the day so don’t forget to arrive early!
Witness the Legacy of Gardener Walter Speed
Walter Speed is considered one of the best gardeners of his generation and received the Victoria Medal of Honour from Queen Victoria herself in 1897. Speed is regarded as creating a lasting legacy to Penrhyn Castle as the gardens and grounds were once in the top three in Great Britain. Even if you have seen the gardens in the summertime the gardens take on a whole new appearance in the winter as the trees take on a sculptural quality against the backdrop of the Snowdonia Mountains and Menai Straits.
