This year we can enjoy lots of Farmers’ Markets across the region which offers visitors displays of fresh greens, handmade goods and specialty items for all to try. Within commutable distance from West Point holiday homes in Snowdonia, these three particular markets offer family and friends a day out for free.
Conwy have a small tradition by offering the locals, as well as those who are dedicated to travel, the Conwy Farmers’ Market which is held on the last Wednesday of each month. These markets take place at RSPB Conwy Nature Reserve where you’ll find a diverse range of local produce, as well as have the opportunity to get to know the people who made it. Although every Farmers’ Market is different, you can typically find meat, fruit, vegetables, pies, cheese, plus our favourite – cake! This particular market will be open on Wednesday 28th January 2015 between 9am and 1pm.
Closer to our holiday homes in Snowdonia, Porthmadog offer a lively Local Produce Market. This will commence on Saturday 31st January 2015 between 9.30am-2pm at Porthmadog Arts Centre on High Street. Primarily, this market offers produce which is grown, farmed or processed by the stall holders. The majority of stall holders you’ll meet on the day trade within Gwynedd, making this your typical local market you can enjoy. This market opens up a window for small businesses in the area who want to offer the locals fresh, quality products at affordable prices. One of their aims is to decrease the food miles, which of course help to reduce the carbon footprint.
A little further afield, but still accessible from West Point Resort, is the Anglesey Farmers’ Market taking place at David Hughes School on Saturday 21st February 2015 between 9am-1pm. If you’re a fan of markets, but perhaps want to avoid potential bad weather or the cold in general, then this is the market for you. Anglesey Farmers’ Market is located indoors at David Hughes School, where you will find a diverse selection of produce from locally grown vegetables and freshly baked bread to organic mushrooms and fresh crab caught along the Anglesey coastline. If you have more of a sweet tooth, then you’ll be able to find a number of stalls offering an array of cakes, puddings, ice-cream and cheese cakes.
We are sure you won’t be disappointed by the quality of produce available for you to buy, especially when the markets have a number of award winning producers: True Taste and Great Taste winners, as well as UK Local Food Heroes will be attending. All three of these markets are accessible from West Point Resort, with Porthmadog taking as little as twenty-five minutes.
