The local area of Pontllyfni offers a variety of attractions from castles to slate works and stunning views. West Point is a small resort that provides lodges in Snowdonia for those wishing to visit the area and explore these spectacular locations.
A short twenty-five minute drive away is the Ciccieth Castle. Built in the 13th century the castle can guarantee some historic stories and beautiful architecture. The castle itself towers over deep water which sits at its feet, providing passer-bys a great view. If you still want the experience of exploring a castle with all its ruins, architecture, stories and activities, but perhaps want something a little closer to our lodges in Snowdonia, then Caernarfon Castle is only a fifteen minute drive away.
Caernarfon Castle offers a little more to the eye than other castles in the area, making it worthy of its status, World Heritage Site. The castle holds The Eagle Tower which stands as one of its polygonal towers – not your standard type of castle architecture. On top of that, the castle offers a panorama of views from the coastline to views across the castle grounds.
For something a little different, Inigo Jones Slate Works is only a ten minute drive away from West Point. For the more active people, a thirty minute cycle route is available to easily access the place on bike. Inigo Jones originally provided writing slates for schools in the 1860’s, until schools replaced them with paper. Inigo Jones new aim was to find new products, which then saw them producing slate fireplaces, memorials and kitchen worktops. Today they provide a wide range of craft products that have become a popular choice from consumers and visitors.
The popular Snowdonia Market is returning, but this time will be held at Inigo Jones on the last Saturday and/or Sunday of May, June, July and August 2015. Why not book yourself a stay with us here at West Point Resort and enjoy markets, craft work but also their workshop tours that are available to book?
