Henri Llyod Abersoch 10K is Returning for May 2015!

West Point is excited for the return of the Henri Lloyd Abersoch 10K which will be held on Saturday 30th May 2015. Both elite runner and beginners are welcome, with a 10K and 3K run available to enter. The Abersoch 10K race will begin at 10:30am from the picturesque surf village through the streets packed with spectators who will gather to support over 1000 runners. The race is renowned for its excellent turn out, beautiful landscape and challenge it presents all runners to the event. West Point is in the prime location for all spectators and participants to come back to and relax and so is our Sister Park, Morfa Lodge.

The Course

The start of the course overlooks the harbour taking you past Manana Restaurant. For the first mile stretch the race will take you up and through the high street to Sarn Bach crossroads. There’s a variety of terrains with a short track going round the bay, up hills and joining the beachfront for the last stretch.

Race Tips

The race starts at the village, where the atmosphere will be electric – perfect or getting a good pace on. The hill hits at 1.5 miles and lasts 0.3 miles, but if you pick the right hand line up it, you should sail up. There are some spectacular views, so make sure you don’t forget to check them out whilst you are running. In the last mile of the race, where you come up to the beach, you should consider a few things. The tide will be out, so the best line to take is one just below the soft sand and on the hard sand. The fastest route though is almost certainly below the line of the groynes, although you risk getting your feet very wet. It could be wise to hurdle the groynes on the harder sands, or take the area of the soft sand where there is nothing in the way – but you’ll run on soft sand!

The Views

The views throughout the race in and around the areas of Abersoch and the Llyn Peninsula are spectacular. Views of Cardigan Bay, St Tudwals Islands, Hell’s Mouth, Bardsey Island and the golf course are all there to take your breath away even more than it already is. This will be a fantastic, memorable race that you won’t ever forget.

Accommodation in the area

Those that make the trip to enjoy this fantastic 10K race may need somewhere great to stay and relax their aching muscles. West Point Beach Resort has all the makings of a perfect weekend break with a number of holiday homes, touring pitches and static caravans in North Wales and all just a short drive away from Abersoch.
