Taking a stroll along the North Welsh coastline becomes a unique experience during winter with crisp air, windswept beaches and snow-capped mountains.
This section of the Wales Coastal Path is a half an hour drive from West Point Holiday Park in North Wales and is between Porthaethwy / Menai Bridge and Caernarfon. This path uses the bridge in order to connect with the Anglesey Coastal Path. Be sure to wrap up warm!
- The route begins at the roundabout on Anglesey, crossing over the Menai Bridge to the mainland. From here you get a spectacular view of the Snowdonia mountain range, which may be covered in a beautiful blanket of white, and Britannia Bridge in the distance.
- Once you are across the bridge, the coastal path turns right towards Terborth Hall. The path is clearly signposted before turning right again into a magical woodland and back on the coast. This is considered the best section of the path as it’s wooded, high above the straits and has impressive views.
- Eventually, you will pass under the Britannia Bridge to a carpark. The Lions of Britannia Bridge, which welcome visitors to Anglesey, can be easily viewed from this section.
- The path then brings you out into a car park, but don’t be disappointed by this temporary view. Cross the car park to the signposted path, which follows the coast before passing through a gate in a wall. The waymarked path then leads through Glan Faenol, owned by the National Trust.
- The path, which is still waymarked, continues through a housing estate towards the harbour. Cross at the steel bridge to emerge at the Gardd Fon Pub.
- From here it is pretty straightforward. Just follow the Beach Road, before turning left and uphill after a boatyard. Before reaching the main road, the Lon Fenai cycle path can be found on the right and you can follow this all the way to Caernarfon.
